Right now (XFree86 1.3) you can run X mono. Wait till XFree86 2.0

(hopefully end of October) and there should be support for the OAK

While I do not wish to start an Emacs flame war, I'd just like to say that

Joe is highly configurable, and is currently being extended with a macro
|
|
language which will give it even more functionality.
|

The author of Joe has posted his second version of the extension script
|
|
interpreter to alt.sources a couple weeks ago, which will allow joe to
|
|
function in a role similar to EMACS.

After installing the current slackware release and getting twm to work OK,

|
I have tried to use the installed Open Look olvwm.
|
|
|
|
I get a faulting message saying that library "libolg.so.3" cannot be found.
|
|
|
|
I can't find it on the net anywhere and wonder if I need to link it to
|
|
some other library. The FAQs I have read don't seem to directly mention
|
|
this problem.

Metro wants ~$200 US, and I found another place in Unix Review

(can't recall the name offhand) that wants ~$175 US.

I've just installed the latest version of Linux using the conventional method
|
|
of floppy disks. I have one IDE hard drive and one SCSI hard drive which is
|
|
supported by an Adaptec 1542B. What I did was to create one partition on the
|
|
IDE drive for Linux to boot up on. I then created another partition on the
|
|
SCSI drive to put the home directory onto. When I finished installing Linux
|
|
I booted up from the floppy disk which was created during the installation.
|
|
When Linux came to the point of initallizing the Adaptec 1542B the system
|
|
just hung up and there was a message saying
|
|
|
|
Internal Error scsi.c 966
|
|
|
|
I've checked that the following information was correct on both my card and
|
|
the setup on my machine. [ IO:330 IRQ:10 DMA:5 ]
|
|
|
|
I have no idea what could be the problem.
|
|
|
|

newsgroups as I haven't got NEWS setup yet.

Just out of curiosity, it there a way to make lilo version 12 default boot from
|
|
MSDOS? What would I need to change in /etc/lilo/config? I have two boots,
|
|
MSDOS and LINUX, the boot record resides in /dev/hda2 (my linux partition) and
|
|
it is active. If I make /dev/hda1 active MSDOS boots.
|
|
|

Hi,

I am having aproblem booting linux or DOS, I have 2 163meg

IDE hard drives. The first has 133megs of DOS (/dev/hda1) the extra
|
|
30 belongs to the linux swap file (/dev/hda3). The second drive is
|
|
totaly devoted to linux (/dev/hdb2). If I boot w/o any floppies,
|
|
I'll default to DOS, I need to boot with a floppy in order to boot
|
|
linux. How do I install LILO so I can totaly boot from the hard drive,
|
|
then be given the choice to load either DOS or Linux???
|
|
|
|
Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!

I just recently got the linux system on CD Rom and want to install it from

my Texel cd rom hooked up to my Proaudio Spectrum 16 card. It has a scsi
|
|
port on it. When Linux's boots from the install disk it scsi detected but
|
|
doesn't see the rom. What am I doing wrong? Is the card supported? I
|
|
looked in the install papers but couldn't find anything.

I am trying to install SLS Linux on my new HD, It initializes the
|
|
Linux/Minix partition fine, but doesn't properly set up my swap partition
|
|
via the installation script. Also, while installing 70Megs worth, I
|
|
received errors all of the time including:
|
|
stdin:out of memory
|
|
virtual memory exceeded in 'new'
|
|
tar: could not allocate memory for blacking factor 20
|
|
sed: couldn't allocate momory
|
|
|
|
I am running on a 386/40MHz with a 330MB IDE HD. I have 4 Megs of Ram,
|
|
shouldn't that be enough. I went through the whole installation and very
|
|
little was there. Also, when I make the boot disk at the end of the
|
|
installation, it goes fine until it tries to mount, VFS. Then the machine
|
|
locks. I should be getting 4 Megs more soon, should that help? Please
|
|
help soon! I am dying to get X running! Thanks in advance. Please mail

How do I rerun lilo so the kernel I just compiled will boot right?
|
|
I assume lilo is the problem: i compiled a new kernel and now it
|
|
goes into infinite reboots.
|
|
|
|
When I run the 'make zlilo' to compile a new kernel, it makes one, but
|
|
has trouble running lilo, saying ./lilo: No such file or directory.
|
|
Even when I run lilo install from the linux compile directory, I still
|
|
have the problem (see below) Why? Then, when I go to the /etc/lilo directory
|
|
itself, the dang thing now says it wants command line arguments. None
|
|
of this is documented: it is not in /etc/lilo/README, it is not in
|
|
LILO-FAQ. I simply need to know how to get the new kernel to
|
|
automatically boot. On other systems, it's easy. Make new kernel,
|
|
copy over, reboot. With lilo i have to spend half a day only to
|
|
figure out that when it is going into infinite rebooting cycles this
|
|
is a *feature*, not a flaw. Please help, anyone.

Take a closer look at the files under /usr/local/lib/smail ... especially

|
the 'paths' file; be sure to include both, your hostname w/o domain AND your

hostname with your domain ... see the example for details.

You also should edit the config-files for elm (elm.rc etc.) to suit your
|
|
setup.
|
|

The above should do it for _local_ mail ...

Has anyone out there got term 1.07 to work under AIX 3.2 or 3.1 for that
|
|
matter. I can get it to compile, and when I run it on the AIX system and my
|
|
linux system it seem to connect, but as soon as I try to run trsh I get an
|
|
error something like "can't create (open) pty." Well this isn't the exact
|
|
message but you get the idea. So if anybody out there has been able to get
|
|
term working correctly on an AIX system please post of mail me what changes
|
|
you made to the code. Thanks alot.
